We did not want to waste the day though and as it seemed we might get a few hours of dry we thought we could talk a short walk to Nijō Castle
It is very well preserved and is a UNESCO listed heritage site.
Here are some of the shots we took. Unfortunately you cannot take pictures inside the castle, but it was a sea of beautiful Japanese cypress, cedar, finely woven tatami mats and hundreds of murals.
Those shoguns sure knew how to live in style.
They had 300 rooms in a 3300 square metre building with the larger rooms set aside for the important things in life, like swords and concubines and catching up with mates, which they referred to as "meeting the feudal lords".
